Chateau Blanc: Always a 'Sweet' Place to Visit...

Dateline Normandy -- Through its diligent research staff of two, the N-C staff has uncovered more intriguing history on Chateau Blanc. The village historian sent the above photos of the house at the turn of the 20th century when it wasn't "The White Castle" but rather known as Chateau Nos, the name of the family that owned it at the time. It was only later that it was painted white and became called as it is today. The first photo was used as a postcard for the family and includes the house staff lined up in front (click on photo to enlarge for better view). In another piece of Chateau Blanc history, C was speaking with an an elderly village resident at the town flea market when he pointed out that as a boy he attended elementary school in the City Hall building situated behind them. He went on to fondly say how that after Limesy was liberated in WWII, he and other schoolmates would all go to Chateau Blanc to get chocolate from American GIs who hung out there. He was quite pleasantly surprised and a bit emotional when C told him she was - 1, an American and, 2,- lives at Chateau Blanc. Maybe more research will eventually come up with some names of soldiers who may spent some time at the house after the liberation. The N-C staff will keep digging. In the meantime, the T's vow to stick to tradition and keep sweets on hand at all times. ~30~
