Dateline Normandy -- What delight to find the back entrance gate and its concrete posts demolished last weekend. It was discovered after a mystery dog was found in the yard with Gaston.
Initially suspecting vandals, S and Jacky snooped around and found a car belonging to a neighbor whose broken tail light happened to match up with the broken tail light glass found the gate - quelle coincidence!
Jacky knocks at neighbor's door. Neighbor, man aged around 65 I reckon and who we don't know (rather a hermit, we think), plays dumb, very convincingly, and says has no recollection of hitting anything. He appears to be a bit, well, slow. Jacky gives S the ''tipsy'' sign. S tells neighbor no need to call police to do a report if he wants to settle this between us. He gruffly mumbles and agrees -- absolutely unperturbed by the situation and certainly doesn't profess guilt or regret to anything. In fact, he uses the opportunity to ask when we're gonna trim the hedges so that his garden will get more sunlight. Jacky is going to get someone to repair.
It remains to be seen if we'll have to break some thumbs or not. ~30~
